Welcome! We are a Christian family who cares for elderly individuals in our home. There are so many quotes, stories, and photos that we wanted to share with our precious "Golden Girls'" families, which they could view quicker and could be updated easier on this blog than we would ever have time (and memory!) to share with them personally. We also thought others might enjoy reading and viewing along with the families on this great adventure of their loved ones' golden sunset years. So sit back, relax, and enjoy your visit with us and "The Grandmas"!

Grandma "D" ~ 1922-2012

This picture perfectly captures one of Grandma "D"s most used phrases:
"Aging is for the birds."

Early yesterday morning, our precious Grandma "D" went to be with the Lord. It was such a blessing to be able to spend the past two years with her, sharing together the many joys that life showers us with. Grandma "D" always had a "the cup is half full" mentality, thriving and enjoying each day in spite of the trials that  come with aging.

We miss her with each new passing day, but are grateful to know that she is at peace, no more pain, no more dementia; just beautiful peace, resting in the arms of Jesus.

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

I am the resurrection and the life. He who
believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.
                                   ~ John 11:25

These things I have spoken to you,
that in Me you may have peace.
In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer,
I have overcome the world.
                                    ~ John 16:33

Cabin Getaway, 2012

Remember our getaway from 2011? Well, we loved it so much there and wanted to get out of the house for a few days and drink in the peace and freshness of the country, that another trip was called for! This time we decided it would be a nice change of scenery for the Grannies as well, so up and away all eight of us went for the cabin getaway adventure of the year!

Day 1

Vanessa was the authorized driver
of our second vehicle -- scary isn't it?

Which consisted of stuff, stuff and... Johanna!

Our first meal at the cabin!

Johanna loved being able to sleep in the loft!

"Veni, Vidi, Vici!"

The beautiful lady that manages it all so smoothly

Dad took the first opportunity to head out to the fishing hole

Our rustic back porch (isn't the stove adorable??)

Our temporary backyard

Fishing time!

Grandma "D" caught something!

The first fish of the week!

Across the pond (the red dot in the background is our cabin)

Johanna's fish!

Grandma Lorry caught a big one!

Be sure to pause the background music
before watching the video clip below:

Notice the dark sky?

Out of nowhere (well the clouds for all you detailed scientists) it started pouring!

We were wet (but not cold)

Smiling through the rain

Who says you can't fish in the rain?

Johanna loved catching the minnows for bait

And here's another clip during the rain:

The tempest raged for only a short time, calming into a light drizzle

During the downfall, a 20 inch bass decided
he was hungry for Grandma "D"s minnow!

That's one big fish right there!

The sky after the rain

What an adventure!

We headed back to the ranch for some delicious grilling

The ladies waiting patiently at our outdoor restaurant for...

Shish kabobs!
Consisting of chicken, shrimp, bell peppers, onions and mushrooms

And for dessert? Apple crisp!

The happenin' place

Yummy to our tummies!

Last of all we surprised Mom with an early Mother's Day party

Johanna had the great idea of having a tea party!

She decorated the bag...and she's so proud of it :D

Stay tuned for Day 2 of our Cabin Getaway!
