Welcome! We are a Christian family who cares for elderly individuals in our home. There are so many quotes, stories, and photos that we wanted to share with our precious "Golden Girls'" families, which they could view quicker and could be updated easier on this blog than we would ever have time (and memory!) to share with them personally. We also thought others might enjoy reading and viewing along with the families on this great adventure of their loved ones' golden sunset years. So sit back, relax, and enjoy your visit with us and "The Grandmas"!

Puppy Love

Many thanks to the S. family for bringing Tinkerbell for some pet therapy!  June is our outdoor girl, growing up on a farm with loads of animals.  Her favorites are cats and little dogs...ones she can snuggle with and lean her head on.  Tinkerbell was so gentle and patient...just what June needed!

Helen Laverne ~ 1923-2010

This past Sunday, January 17th, 2010 was the peaceful Homecoming to Jesus for our dear Helen Laverne.  What joy, what warmth she has brought to our home!  From the moment of setting our eyes upon her comforting, sweet face, she has been placed very dearly in our hearts.
I remember when we first walked into her room in OK.  Upon entering and catching sight of the grandmotherly figure, Johanna made a beeline for Helen, intertwining their hands together.  That was just the start of a tight bond between the two.  Helen brought her little red velvet rocker with her and it became the "seat of honor" for the two to sit in; Johanna with her head leaning on the comfortable shoulder, and Helen tenderly patting her back.
We have each had our precious moments with Grandma Helen; memories which will never fade, remain forever dear to our hearts.  And although her passing, her uniting with Christ, is a most difficult and bitter truth to swallow, yet, it is also a time of celebration and a deliciously sweet testimony to proclaim! I am reminded of the words of David as he expresses the difficulty of sorrow and yet the victory we can enjoy which follows: Weeping may last for the night, but a shout of joy comes in the morning. (Psalm 30:5b)

Though we terribly miss our dear, sweet, loving southern belle, we have a hope which will one day reunite us not only with Helen, but the Lord of all.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7&8

Our Little Homemaker

Today Johanna was quite the hard worker.  We cooked supper (cheesy chicken spaghetti -thanks Kimberly!), made dessert (butterfinger cake), swept the kitchen, loaded the dishwasher, set the table, did four loads of laundry, emptied all the trashes, made homemade dryer sheets, and finished with a fast and furious time of school (note: she does not like to make the letter 'S' as it's "too hard!").  During all of these duties I was only able to get two photos of the different scenes she placed herself in.

If she keeps this up, she'll be a great mommy some day!

Cherished Moments

As much as we seem to be always on our feet, running about and keeping up with life, our busy household has many moments of rest & stillness; times when all you hear is the tick of the clock, soft melodies playing, or simply the comforting crackle of the fire.

Helen was snug & warm beneath her new blanket & cuddly friends (she told me the doll's name was Susie Jane :D )

June greatly enjoys sitting by the fire (especially when she's reading a Chadwick's magazine :D )

It's so precious to watch Dad & Johanna playing together
