Welcome! We are a Christian family who cares for elderly individuals in our home. There are so many quotes, stories, and photos that we wanted to share with our precious "Golden Girls'" families, which they could view quicker and could be updated easier on this blog than we would ever have time (and memory!) to share with them personally. We also thought others might enjoy reading and viewing along with the families on this great adventure of their loved ones' golden sunset years. So sit back, relax, and enjoy your visit with us and "The Grandmas"!

Still Here...

Hey folks!  I apologize for not posting for so long; my computer's in the shop...and all the photos from the last few months are with it!  But although I have all but deserted the blogosphere, leaving it terribly abandoned and forlorn, the here-osphere (ie. the physical, present-day, here) has been anything but the definition of quiet, which in my own terms and self-defining thesaurus would be described as calm, peaceful, serene, tranquil, halcyon, imperturbable and ultimately, equanimous....ahem...let's just stick with quiet.

Please bear with me, my dear readers, near and far alike, as I wait for the return of my repaired PC holding within it those precious memories I'd like to share with you all.

In lieu of those photos which are unavailable to me, please enjoy these more recent ones which are...

We celebrated a momentous birthday for a special girl back on November 10th

Grandma "D's" eldest son, Mike came for a visit

A lovely day for a trip to the zoo

What could be better than s'mores on a cool evening?

We've had visits from sweet friends and family -- good to see you, Tommy & Ginger!

Bella Bean has been practicing self-control via "blanket training" :)

A secret just between the---um, all of us: we made gingerbread and sugar cookies a couple weeks before our *real* Christmas baking day...and ate them all the next day...shhh! it's a secret!

Grandma Lorry has prepared for us her Italian Spaghetti and Meatballs (yes, with curlers in her hair)

A little mother-in-training has wandered the home seeking patients to practice on

Our Grandparents have visited

Grandma June has hired the brains of a sleuth (or should it be sloth?) to help with her word search
We had another wonderful afternoon with Mrs. Kathi!

Surprise visits from good friends are wonderful indeed!  Thanks for dropping in, Don & Victoria!

Ride on, cowgirl!

The lovely Grandma "D" with a very flexible goat
Well, that's it for now!  Christmas and New Year's posts will be coming up, but until then enjoy visiting last year's posts here and here.

Hope you're all enjoying the last day of 2010!

They're Back!

Hey there!  This is just a quick note to announce that Dad and Mom are officially back from their long anticipated 25th anniversary trip to Florida!  What's that?  You hadn't heard?  Ah well, now you have. ; )

It was amusing going through the camera as I uploaded these photos.  About half of the media on the camera was accidentally recorded on video mode instead of photo.  Such as...

(Attention: this is a long, random video covering a side view of the high grasses bordering a sandy path and listening to the sort of conversation you'd hear from a couple taking a long walk, aimlessly going from one destination to another- and let's not forget that this couple is on a vacation, so what's there to talk about anyhow?
Side Note: not for the sea sick and queasy lot)
Be sure and turn off the music in the background

They stayed at a 5 star resort hotel overlooking the bay.  When they told the hotel staff that they were celebrating their 25th, they were given a room on the 15th floor!  How awesome is that?
They took a 15 minute boat ride over to the private island and spent hours on the beach, watching dolphins and getting some much needed napping.

 Ah...the life
From their room, overlooking six pools, the boardwalk, mangroves, and bay.
 Lovely Mama
The Anniversarians (a word?) had an amazing six days and five nights of vacation.  We are thankful to the Lord for having provided this unbelievable opportunity for such a memorable trip.
(But we're glad they're home now... = )

Everyday Living...

"Teacher" Junebug enjoying her morning cocoa with budding art student, Johanna

Grandma "D" enjoying an afternoon with her wonderful son, Tim

Grandma Lorry trying to enjoys a heel massage from Johanna

She likes to be extra safe when using her tools...that's why Johanna popped out the lens to her goggles so her eyes could "breathe". = )

Our hardworking man!

The Domino Game Trio

Relaxed. Kicked-Back. Lovin' Life.

Fear not! Johanna has finally found a babysitter who has all the qualities she's been searching for to care for her baby: loyal, soft, and (most importantly)...cheap.

It's Yahtzee time! Grandma Lorry patiently teaches Johanna the tricks of the game.

I believe we'll be seeing a lot more baby-dolls here as Johanna has become very fond of her "triplets" and likes to find whomever she can to "babysit" for her.

Music speaks what cannot be expressed,
soothes the mind and gives it rest,
heals the heart and makes it whole,
flows from heaven to the soul.

S. Padre Island, 2010

Hey there!  Thought I'd post a few pics from the short and sweet family vacation we were able to take the last weekend of September.  God was so good: it was supposed to rain up to, during, and after our planned weekend and since we bought our hotel stay at a cheap price (thank God for priceline.com!) we wouldn't be able to get a rain check (pun not intended) or refund.  But driving over the bridge, the sun was shining, the sky bluer than blue (hey, it sounded good), and the waves huge and roaring.  Believe it or not, it rained up to the afternoon we got there, and didn't start again until we were crossing back over the bridge home! Praise the Lord!

While we were there, we ate at our all-time favorite, the Longhorn restaurant (best pinto bean soup ever!) and visited our little town of Lozano.  What a memory-filled, relaxing weekend!  Many thanks to Mrs. LaTanya for taking such tender care of our grandmas while we were away.  If it wasn't for you, this trip would've been a long time in the taking. : )
